Pengertian Past Continous Tense
Past Continous Tense digunakan untuk menjelaskan peristiwa atau kejadian yang sedang terjadi di masa lampau. Past continuous tense juga digunakan untuk mengindikasikan kejadian yang lebih panjang di masa lalu disela oleh kejadian lain yang lebih pendek.
Ann was playing game when her mom called
(Anna sedang bermain game saat ibunya memanggil) Makna dari kalimat ini adalah keajadiannya sudah berlalu, namun menceritakan bahwa pada saat itu Ann sedang bermain game, lalu ibunya memanggil (durasi main game lebih lama dibandingkan durasi ibunya yang tiba-tiba memanggil)
Selain itu, kalimat past continuous tense juga menggunakan keterangan waktu yang spesifik untuk menunjukan dimulai atau diakhirinya sebuah peristiwa. Contoh:
I was watching a movie last night at 7 PM,
(Saya sedang menonton film semalam, jam 7)
Past continuous tense juga digunakan untuk menyatakan kejadian-kejadian pararel pada masa lampau. Contoh :
Karin was studying while her mom was making dinner.
(Karin sedang belajar sementara ibunya memasak untuk makan malam)
Rumus Past Continous Tense
(+) Subjek + was/ were + Ving
(-) Subjek + was/ were + not + Ving
(?) Was/ were + Subjek + Ving
I, he, she, it menggunakan was, sedangkan you, they, we menggunakan were.

(-) Jack was not studying when dad called
